Years ago, there was a senior associate that seemed to have a holiday tradition of emailing me and my peers on Christmas day and demanding an immediate response. At the bottom of the e-mail, he would say, “I know it is Christmas - thank you for your commitment to the firm.” Eventually, he did not make partner and decided to leave. On his last day, I sent him a note that just said, “thank you for your commitment to the firm.” It seemed funny at the time but I never heard back from him.
